Our goal is to create a sustainable brand as a whole, incorporating a holistic, eco-friendly philosophy and committing to a circular fashion system that threads through the entire life cycle process from raw material procurement to repurposing.
Silk is a natural fiber, with the unique quality of having a negative carbon footprint, making it the most ecologically friendly fabric. Our silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori reared in captivity (sericulture). Mulberry trees are hardy, multi-purpose and require fewer pesticides than most crops.
DESIGNING SLOW FASHION
Our design aesthetic of casual sophistication with versatile, all-year round pieces supports a philosophy of 'less is more'. Nouvelle is long lasting, worn season as top-to-toe ensembles, underpinnings to fine suiting or tops to elevated denim in multiple color options.
Maintaining an ecologically friendly philosophy with the highest standards of raw silk procurement, including close relationships with sericulture management. Responsible small lot fabric dying and cut to order low minimums to curb waste. Regular visits to our manufacturer continue to build on our longstanding relationships with management and the seasoned and skilled women employed to sew Nouvelle.
We have decreased the size of our labels and hangtags by 20% in 2020. Our goal is to only use eco-friendly hangers and recycled packaging and tags by 2022.
Dry-cleaning is devastating to the environment and often ruins garments prematurely. Our trademarked Silk95Five is washable, with east at-home care features, it thrives in water and washes beautifully with minimum use of detergent.
At our head office, in West Palm Beach, we plan to offer a silk depot (AW2020) to drop worn silk pieces to be repurposed to belts and scarves. Customers will receive 10% off their next purchase. The repurposed pieces will be resold and 25% of the proceeds will be donated to environmental causes.
